I have been encouraged over the last few years by the emergence and staying power of newsletters (e.g. Substack) as a form of direct-to-reader blog. I subscribe to many:
- Fog Chaser (an instrumental music project),
- Flow State (a music journalist covering instrumental music),
- Music by Chris Krycho (my friend and collaborator’s newsletter about composing music),
- Paper Robots (my friend Stephen Day’s, about financial literacy for kids and families), and
- AI & Law by Midwest Frontier AI Consulting (my friend Chad Ratashak’s, about AI legal cases), among many others.
Well, in a happy confluence of events, I got to play a minor part in two of these newsletters today. Consider them little sightings. First, Chris mentioned my favorite contemporary composition in response to a previous email’s query. Secondly, Stephen Day and I had a nice conversation about professional social media activity in the comments section of his latest newsletter. Thanks to Chris and Stephen for creating lovely little spaces in the world for good things to happen. Thanks to everyone else I subscribe to as well, for trying to do good in the world.
