“Discoverability: Toward a Definition of Content Discovery Through Platforms” is an excellent article about a technical concept in digital media studies. McKelvey and Hunt build provisional categories for how the environment (“surrounds”) and paths through the digital environment (“vectors”) create experiences that are not just the user’s choice but aren’t entirely the platform’s efforts either.
The reason I’m blogging about this, though, is the five-page appendix to a 10-page article. This incredibly long appendix is literally a screenshot of the first author’s entire Netflix homepage scrolled all the way down. It demonstrates a concept that is presented in the text, but mostly: BOLD MOVE. I LOVE IT.
